I picked these up on my walk and I have never known they existed in Singapore. Reading up on its signage, I learnt that these edible sour fruits are from the Blue Marble Tree, and they can be made into jams or in India, be polished to become beads. As I marveled at the diversity of our beautiful nature, it struck me that in our drive to buy and consume (and at times rapidly throwing away stuff we didn’t really need in the first place), if we can’t reduce that impulse, at least we ought to act responsibly to be good stewards . If we want to chop down trees, make it count by using the paper to draw up plans and ideas that would benefit the world. If we want to kill an animal for its meat, make it count by savouring its taste and using the energy derived to do something good. If we want to exchange our time for pay, make it count by making the most out of a job. If we have to go through suffering and pain, make it count by learning from mistakes and becoming more resilient and thankful for little blessings. Do not let things or ourselves die for an unworthy and unthinking cause. It would be too sad that way! #makeitcount #stewardship of #nature and #life #journal #singapore #botanicgardens
Desert Blossom A taste of water Once again my parched soul wakes Rising from the sand A lovely Sunday afternoon spent in the company of an old friend who brought home this raku/stoneware vase. So grateful that art brings people together. #raku #pottery #poetry #handmade #ceramic #vase by #studioasobi #madeinsg
This isn’t my story, but I had to choose between “should” and “must” when I decided on a complete career switch into ceramics too. Of course, there are always going to be fears and doubts, and the possibility of making a complete mess and failure.
However, I did not want to take the bigger risk – of not ever trying and having regrets at the end that I played it too safe and missed all the colours and rainbows of life.
Hope this article will be an encouragement and inspiration for you as you answer this question – “What is it that you really want to do?”
Carpe diem and happy mid-week!
