勿忘初衷 | Forget Me Not We live in a distracting world that beckons to pull us in all different directions and desires. Yet, often when we have found our purpose and goal, we just got to stay focused and single-minded in the pursuit. And not forget our initial love and passion :) P.S. Loving the shadows cast by our plants swaying in the wind! #calligraphy #handmade #pottery #ceramics #tableware #madeinsg #designedinsg #life #musings #purpose #studioasobi #singapore #勿忘初衷

Two years ago during my sabbatical, a question came to mind – how many sunsets can one witness and admire in a lifetime? At that moment I couldn’t help but mourn for the numerous sunsets and sunrises I had missed. And for the rest of my studio stay in Japan, I did not miss a single sunset. No matter what I was doing, I put it down, got on my bicycle and headed to the river. And I was glad I did. This sake set which reminds me of the glorious sunsets, is a gift I made for a dear friend who lives her life in a manner that seizes the day!:) #handmade #陶器 #さけ #sake set #pottery #ceramics #tableware #studioasobi #madeinsg #sabbatical #sunset #musings #carpediem

It wasn’t supposed to turn out this way. Why can’t it be smooth like others? Why can’t it… Often, we have expectations like these thoughts for our lives. And we get frustrated. But what if the bumps and rough edges and “imperfections” have a purpose? What if we can see beyond our expectations to see their beauty? What if they are there to mould and refine us and bring us into a bigger narrative of our lives that we would not have written ourselves? Being a potter has taught me much. Of surrender. Of being comfortable that control is not something that is meant for us to steer all by ourselves. That there is always redemption and grace for the taking. #musings #life #refine #pottery #ceramics #crawl #glaze #singapore #studioasobi

As much as we desire to see beautiful things, the state of the world isn’t pretty. There is evil that threatens to destroy and disrupt; there is greed that plasters over the conscience which makes exploitation and deceit okay. There are people who are struggling to keep themselves and their loved ones alive to see another day, and there are those who are dying a slow death because of the irresponsible acts committed by others in stripping their land and polluting their water streams. So, what can be done? I can’t make a dent in solving these mammoth issues, but I don’t wish to turn a blind eye and look the other way either. So we asked ourselves – can we live differently? Instead of cultivating an insatiable appetite of needs and wants, we can delight in the simple lifestyle. Instead of fearing we won’t have enough, we can share the little that we have with others who need it more than we do. Instead of participating in hate and divisions, we can work to build up empathy and compassion. Instead of creating more things that feed into the throwaway culture, we make things that last beyond a lifetime. We are working towards reducing unnecessary consumption to reduce waste, and also to reduce the amount of chemicals that get into our water streams by making our own household & personal cleaning agents. As we started paying more attention, we are discovering more and more ways to be a better steward of our earth’s resources. If you have stories or tips about what you are doing, do share them! We would love to hear from you :) The more we can all chip in to build a better culture, the better it would be! #musings #environment #nature #sustainability #conservation #stewardship #culture #maker #singapore #pottery #ceramics
